Define the boundary first
Decide whether the audit should include one hostname, subdomains, or a specific site section. Use a sitemap seed when important pages are weakly linked. Remove known tracking parameters and collapse filter variants when those URLs do not represent distinct content.

Check four coverage signals
Read crawled URL count, sitemap inclusion, maximum click depth, and the plan limit together. A clean report on 500 pages cannot describe the remaining 9,500 pages if the run stopped at its allowance.

Keep comparisons fair
Reuse the same scope when measuring progress. A health score can improve because defects were fixed, or because the later crawl included fewer difficult pages. Scope changes belong in the explanation attached to any trend.
